These pots are initially extruded, then ovaled, darted and joined to their base. These are forms that I often make with my assistant, although I always do the decorating. I enjoy pouring the different slips to create layers of colours.
Being oval in shape they take up little space on shelves or windowsills and hold flowers well.
As you can see I really enjoy making oval pots. I throw the wall of the pot first without a base, form it into an oval shape whilst it is still soft and then add a base. The small handles are attached when the clay is leather hard.
I think the idea for these handles may have come from my time working in a traditional spanish pottery making cooking pots. We always attached small handles to the rims.
