Initially, these tall bottles were made as 'protectors', designed to sit on the edge of the bag wall (next to where the wood is stoked into the kiln). They protect the smaller, more vulnerable pots from the full force of the wood, ash and flame. As a result, the bottles emerge heavily ashed and salted.
Over time, tall bottles evolved. I began making different sized bottles, which have since come to form an eclectic group, reminiscent of people
